Craniosynostosis
Premature fusion of sutures
v Positional plagiocephaly AKA deformational plagiocephaly
Prevelence:
Positional plagiocephaly 1:300
Craniosynostosis: 1:2,000
(differentiating positional from cranio RCH)
Sagittal: 60% (scaphocephaly)
Coronal:30%
Acrocephaly: rare (sagittal, coronal, and lambdoid = tower skull)
Kleeblattschädel: aka cloverleaf deformity (coronal, lambdoid, and metopic): extremely rare
Xray screening: fused look beaked and sclerotic
abnormal/equivocal > CT
Associated syndromes:
Crouzon's:
Apert's:
Pfeiffer
Carpenter
Saethre-Chotzen
Closure:
Post font: 3-6m
Metopic suture: 9m
Ant Fontanelle: 9-18m
Coronal/Sag/Lamdoid sutures: 40y

- unilateral = anterior plagiocephaly: causes harlequin eye i.e. superior and lateral displacement of orbital ridge)
- bilateral = brachycephaly (no AP growth but wide and tall head)
- untreated can become Oxycephaly aka turricephaly i.e. tower skull short AP, narrow but tall (see acrocephaly)
- narrow triangular forehead with prominent midline ridge
Acrocephaly: rare (sagittal, coronal, and lambdoid = tower skull)
