Always fly ahead of your plane - awareness reduces surprises and thus stress
1) Know environment (what do we have)
a. Personnel – clear list of on-call resources day/night/weekends timing to arrival, each persons cerebral/practical strengths/limitations
b. Equipment –what your have, where it is and how it works, notes, cognitive aids (checklists, hotlines, guidelines)
2) Anticipate difficulties and plan intervention (what do we need)
a. Personnel - Don’t be a hero, respect your pt - Call for help early code blue, trauma call/alert
