AHPRA (goal is to protect public)
- Administers registration of health practitioners (ATSI, Dental, Medical, Medical Radiation, RN/EN/Midwife, OT, Optometrist, Pharmacy, Physio, Psychologist AND Chinese (medicine and acupuncture), Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Podiatrist
- If you present your self as one of these professions you must be registered through AHPRA
- Makes registration publicly accessible to verify assertions
- Receives 'notifications' about practitioners, and conducts investigations
MBA
- Appointed by the AHWMC
- Registers medical practitioners and students
- Develops standards, codes, guidelines
- Investigates notifications
- Conducts panel hearing
- Refers to tribunal
- Approves accreditation standards and accredited courses of study as recommended by the AMC
- Delegates some decisions to the State Board
