- Body language (in front of mirror sitting and standing)
- Eyes up
- Shoulders back
- Core stable
- Feet stable
- Relaxed
- Breathing
- when challenged, deep nasal breath, slow imperceptible mouth exhalation (leave 20%)
- Speech (Record self and listen back, were you heard/were you understood/were you competent)
- clear (not quiet/mumbled), calm (not rapid), confident (not high pitched)
- Mimic a news reader
- Positive
- Confident (not embarrassed, shy, meek)
- Equanimity (Calm under pressure difficult pt/parent)
- prepare knowledge (study)
- prepare body (sleep, breath, water, feed, exercise)
- prepare mind (practice in stressful situations)
- Mimic to establish rapport then lead to your favoured body language
- Eye contact when speaking
- focus between their eyes, limit blinking
- moving between examiners, move eyes without blinking, then head
